Reciprocal Linking is Bad for Your Business Website Health

Monday, November 30th, 2009

As small business owners, we need to find traffic for our websites from wherever we can get it — assuming, of course, that the source is relevant traffic. Irrelevant traffic actually HURTS your website rank in the search engines so we don’t want that. For that reason, we are not fans of reciprocal linking schemes, link farms, etc.

Case in point. I recently met with a new client in Los Angeles who needed to market their small business website. They had previously enjoyed a Page Rank of 5 for their website. Over the past two years, it has dropped to a Page Rank of 3. This was due to a number of factors, but chief among those was the fact that they had been forced into a reciprocal linking arrangement with an unscrupulous vendor. It benefited the vendor tremendously, as they were able to show the search engines that their site was being ranked to from a PR5 website; it made the vendor’s site more “buoyant” (it made it rank higher) in the search engines. The moral of the story is, be very careful if someone offers to do you the “favor” of creating a link to your site, in exchange to linking from yours. It could be detrimental to your website’s Search Engine health.

Nevertheless, you should look for opportunities to receive links from relevant websites whenever possible. It might not seem fair to “take” a link without giving one back, but there are other ways you can help the linking website. If they have a satellite website, you could consider linking to that in the body of one of your posts — relevant topic / contextual link / deep link to the satellite site. Just be careful that the link partner understands that directly linking from the satellite site to their main site will not be nearly as good as if they link in a broad circle of 10 sites before returning to the main site. This is somewhat sophisticated SEO / linking strategy that we’re sharing, so it’s not for everyone to implement on their own. It also implies that you have up to 10 web properties that are all somewhat related that can be daisy chained together… Again, not for everyone. But definitely for businesses that want to insure being on Page 1 on Google. ;)

It requires a lot of time, attention and planning to implement a 10-site daisy chain strategy, and we encourage you to go into that with plenty of forethought. Take the time to not only analyze and eliminate any chance of reciprocal linking or neighbor linking possibilities in the chain, and also insure that whomever in your organization will be managing your website network understands this strategy. A small business SEO Policy is a very smart investment in resources. It takes relatively little time for a website to fall in page rank, and a significantly greater amount of time to gain rank — especially after it is lost.

The underlying issue of Page Rank has been said to be overrated, and it’s largely a symbol of the site’s overall bouyancy in the search engines… it’s not necessarily a goal for a web owner to achieve a particular page rank; it’s more of a barometer or guideline than a definitive benchmark or landing point. The website owner with a page rank of 0 would certainly agree that a page rank of 5 would represent that his/her traffic has achieved more traffic (visitors), more conversions and more leads & sales. That’s really the benchmark we’re aiming for.

Finding Exercise While Getting Stuff Finished

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Charlene and I have been going super hard to make things proper in each of our worlds. When my third marriage ended, (and let’s just say it “ended,” mmm’kay?) I just knew it had become time to realize a change. And not just any shift, I’m talkin’ a heavy shift, sweetheart.

Yet it only looks like everybody wants to keep me down. Life is so rough, isn’t it? When I saw my physician to talk about the tummy tuck price I had been quoted, he only lectured me regarding getting the right kind of exercise. He recognizes I have been doing everything I can, smearing on the scar zone cream and making all my beauty salon equipment to earn their price.

But he only continues scolding me about dieting and exercise, saying to me my body would improve over the long term if I treat it as if I love it.

He’s big on bicycling, but I enjoined him bicycle seats bother me and I just can’t imagine putting on those small cycling jerseys. Is he trying to humiliate me? At least he got a bit more reasonable when he started speaking about things I could do in the comfort of my own place.

Exercise bikes might certainly work better for me than riding out in the open and weight benches and exercise mats are a bit more my speed.

But I also feel that I obtain plenty of fitness in my day-to-day life. Only last calendar week I found lots of exercise tugging around Carla’s garden cart as we decorated her yard for her sister’s birthday party. Arranging the outdoor benches layout for outside party seats after moving the Weber 751001 Charcoal Grill made for some strong weight lifting. And then the stretches and effort required to make all those tiki torches position proper was like aerobics.

Maybe it sounds like I am making excuses. I do not care, girlfriend, that was challenging work! After all that partyin’ and decoratin’ I reckon I burned a thousand calories. I challenge some treadmill jogging sap to press garden carts around for 3 hours and reckon how they feel.

I do not mean to seem whiny. I will get it all in concert. I just wish people would sometimes focus on what I’ve done rather than what I still need to complete. I do understand it isn’t easy being you, but it is not easy being me, either. We all have to work strong to be prosperous, I think.

Visa Credit Card

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

I always love to write about all the different kind of interest topics. I do not have a favorite topic in mind, but I really enjoy writing about just almost anything right now. I’m starting an online business and writing about various topics. I have been known to write about credit cards, insurance, Spanish, English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, German and other languages. I speak several different languages and currently I’m going to school for a bachelors.

When I’m done with school. I will continue to do SEO work and wright various articles. I enjoy, writing articles, because I’m able to learn more about the topics that I’m not very familiar with. Of course I have to learn about the topics first and research on the internet, and then I am able to go about and write about what I have learned on that topic. For example, if I am learning or if I am going to write an article about such topic. First I go online and I research, that topic. Sometimes it takes, me, several minutes because I am somewhat familiar with it already. It depends, though how good you’re with the topic. Sometimes it might take me an hour or more to learn about the topic. Either way, I am continuing my education.

I look at all kinds of sites. I like to look at sites like yahoo answers, Google News, Yahoo news, CNN, Fox news, press releases and other reference materials. Anyway, after I have researched the topic well and that I can write something from off the top of my head. To give you an example this time I will write about visa credit card. Then, I write this is down in front of my computer and I begin typing. I’d like to type out then run through it once again to make sure it flows nicely and check for grammatical errors. In the article I will be sure to include useful information to readers, about visa credit card . After that I’m done.

Then I am done. I will set the article side and maybe wait a few hours, sometimes the day and I’ll get back to it later with fresh eyes and a good night’s sleep, and I’ll see the article, and again review it for any errors or any changes or anything. I like to see if it might sound better if it were put in other words, sometimes more precise and condensed. Then I’m ready to publish what I wrote, so I find the place where I want to publish it, and I submit the article. They’ll review after it’s finished and that’s about all then. It. Usually its accepted and I can go on in the next topic of choice. After the readers have the information, about visa credit card, then they can make a smart choice.

Long Walks And Sciatica

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Seems like every time I want to take a long walk, I end up with back pain and then pain shooting down the back of my leg. I’ve had it often enough that I’ve learned that it’s referred to as “sciatica.”

At first I was worried that it was a “disk problem,” which is what it is a lot of the time. I visited a Houston Chiropractor that was able to adjust me and then showed me some stretches to help it out.

Next up, I was in Montana taking a long, long walk. It started to act up again, so I was thrilled to find a Billings Chiropractor available during the time I needed him. He had another machine in addition to being able to use his hands — called a spinal decompression machine. That helped out quite a bit, doing kind of like the old days when you’d just get tractioned out.

Got a lot of relief, but couldn’t quite figure out why a long walk would trigger such a painful event? It was when I was walking at an event and had to visit a Virginia Beach Chiropractor when things became more clear.

I had a sacroiliac problem, also called the “SI joint.” This made a lot of sense. That particular joint is aggravated by walking! Since the joint is supposed to glide smoothly back and forth when you walk (and it wasn’t), then every step just became another way to aggravate things.

Me walking was more like poking a stick in my back the further I went. So it was only a matter of time. Now I get adjusted on a semi-regular basis to make sure that joint is working the way it’s supposed to.

I’ve also followed the stretching advice of my first chiropractor and have seen major improvement in how it all goes together.

I wonder how many of us have wandered in and out of countless stores at the mall looking for that special pair of shoes to match that amazing pant suit. We may know exactly what style, color, type, make, even price of shoe we want. And yet we still cannot find them! Why not? We’re not asking for the world, are we?

Well, maybe. Sometimes knowing exactly what you want closes your mind to alternatives and can be your downfall.

So rather than grinding yourself down into a nervous state of exhaustion, why not try shopping online?

Buying online is a great alternative to buying in a physical store at the mall. Many stores these days also have online presences, and this means that you can scour the web for that perfect item, all from the comfort of, well, wherever you usually surf the web from!

Awareness Bracelet Craze

Ever since Lance Armstrong started the silicone wristband craze with the release of his yellow LIVESTRONG wristbands, millions of people worldwide have discovered a new and effective method of supporting their favorite causes. Today, there is almost every color imaginable to be found on these ubiquitous silicone bracelets each one performing their part in raising awareness for a multitude of diseases and causes. What does the future hold for this latest fad to take our society (and a plethora of others worldwide) by storm?

Fashionable Fad

Although silicone wristbands have become incredibly popular, it is exceptionally difficult to argue that they are the height of fashion. Even with the cachet factor, it is essential to remember that they are made of rubber. Very few consumers are choosing to wear their awareness bracelets to the ball or senior prom. However, this does not translate into these wristbands as being unfashionable either. Indeed, silicone wristbands have become a fashionable fad.

A fad, by definition, is a short-lived fashion something that is embraced very enthusiastically for a short time, especially by many people. Undoubtedly, many people have enthusiastically embraced silicone bracelets. But, just how short lived is this awareness bracelet craze?

From Fad to Mainstay

Simple market analysis reveals to us a dichotomy in the silicone wristband industry. Retail sales are beginning to lag, yet manufacturers are producing silicone bracelets in record quantities, with no end in sight. How is this possible? Simple. The fad is fading but a new, effective, and inexpensive mainstay has taken its place the custom silicone wristband. Silicone bracelets have already proven themselves effective for fundraising. Now, their fully customized cousins are proving even more effective at targeting a variety of smaller causes, and they are making a dramatic push into corporate promotions and trade shows. Custom silicone wristbands are being adopted by small non-profit organizations, large corporations, and everything in between as a powerful tool for spreading their message, promoting their brand, and announcing new products or even entirely new businesses. Is the key chain a fad? Is the coffee mug, pen, calendar, mouse pad, or T-shirt a fad? No, these items are here to stay. Custom silicone wristbands are here to stay as well. Customized bracelets are more than just a simple promotional or fundraising item. They are walking billboards. Human nature dictates that we share anything that we have received free with practically everyone we meet. If we have purchased a custom silicone wristband to support our local sports team, church youth group, or favorite small charity, human nature often dictates that we share this good deed as well.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that custom silicone wristbands can and will be used by all types of organizations large and small. They are an inexpensive and incredibly effective marketing tool that puts an exciting twist on word of mouth advertising and viral marketing. Organizations are beginning to realize that an investment of mere pennies per wristband has the potential to reach dozens of prospective customers with each fully customized bracelet introduced into their target market. In addition, local schools, churches, and small non-profit organizations recognize the benefits of bolstering school spirit or spreading their message while raising funds at the same time. So, if you are looking for the silicone bracelet fad to fade any time soon, look again. Custom silicone wristbands are not only here to stay, you can expect to see even more of them as everyone from small local churches to huge corporate conglomerates jump on board. With the possible combination of colors, messages, designs, and even sizes being infinite, creative minds everywhere will be looking to harness the power of the custom silicone wristband.

What is the best way to find a new job?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

If want to find a job in a different region of the country. What is the best way to go about finding a high level COO, VP, or General Manager job when searching outside your region?

The job boards like Monster and others don’t seem to work well.

I think you should use a recruiting firm such as Robert Half. Professional staffing firms can do alot of the leg work for you so you don’t have to spend time looking through postings, filling out applications, and sending in cover letters and resumes. Most job postings online don’t give you any idea about the culture or the salary for the position. I’ve preferred this method of finding a job because I can ask the recruiter questions that I wouldn’t ask an interviewer until I had an offer.

Also, some companies don’t post open positions to the public and exclusively use staffing firms. These firms get paid up to 30% of your base salary once you get hired so they’re willing to put in the time looking for something that will appeal to you.

I know of the Internet web sites for job searching but how do you get in contact with recruiters in those areas? I live in the north east of the United States. My wife and I are considering relocating to the south west.

When you are looking for a job out side of your current area? You can find out about school districts and other beneficial information that would help in relocating? Searching Plus, I’ve experienced many companies want to higher people that are local.

Moving people across country at the company expense is a rare event today, unless you are at a VP or higher level. Some industries do more frequently, such as IT.
